Question: "Is it David Bowie at a bar with The Flaming Lips? Is it The Postal Service taking a brisk walk with Talking Heads?".

Answer: yes, it is. It’s Fire Flies sound. According to the members of the band, this is the mixture of Fire Flies’ music. The NYC 4-piece won the national final two weeks ago at the Webster Hall. They are going to hit the Taubertal stage next August, in Rothenburg, Germany. One of the three USA winner band – answered to some questions. Let’s take a look to my interesting conversation with Fire Flies.

Question:  How did you get to play together? Tell me about the birth of Fire Flies.
Answer: "You wouldn't believe how hard we tried NOT to start Fire Flies! Dan and Wil (singer and guitarist, respectively) declared in college that live music was dead, and that they would only record the songs they had written. However, this proved extremely boring, and hence, the band was born".

Question: How would you describe the music of Fire Flies – which is your feature in the rock universe?
Answer: "Is it David Bowie at a bar with The Flaming Lips? Is it The Postal Service taking a brisk walk with Talking Heads? There has been much speculation, but it is generally agreed that Fire Flies makes anxious Electronic Pop Rock that could only be created by humans".

Question: How and why you decided to take part in Emergenza International Festival?
Answer: "It seemed like fun! The chance to meet that many bands in our area was especially attractive. We've met quite a few really great bands at the shows, and hope to gain boy-scoutly friendships with them".

Question: Did you expect to win the national final? And when did you realize it was getting possible?
Answer: "No, we didn't expect to win. A bunch of our friends would say encouraging things after only the first round, for example: "I'm buying my ticket now to go party with you in Germany", or "Germany? Wow. And I never even thought you guys could sing", but WE didn't think we would actually get this far. We didn't really think it was going to happen until we heard our names called at the end of the final".

Question: What the Emergenza experience means for you, and do you think Emergenza changed something in your local music scene?
Answer: "It's been really great to be able to meet so many local bands, and since the artists can get into any Emergenza show for free, we were able to go see our friends' bands who were in the competition, and see all the bands that THEY were playing with too".

Question: Just a place, a month and a number: Taubertal Open-Air festival, next August, 30,000 people. How do you feel about the Grand Final?
Answer: "Sounds like a good time! We love outdoor shows, and people are pretty swell, so put the two together, and a party will most probably ensue".

Question: Are you going to prepare something special for your Rothenburg performance?
Answer: "We're considering trying to play the show while fast asleep. No promises".

Question: Any special comment/thank you about the Festival?
Answer: "Of course! Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us in NY. You're all very good looking and have great personalities. And a huge thank you to Emergenza for giving us this opportunity in the first place".

Question: More plans for the future and for your music?
Answer: "Our hope is to one day become musical ambassadors to intelligent life forms from other parts of the galaxy, but of course, it's only a hope".
